This book demanded to be written after a charity event.
It was a Sunday night when a couple of hundred people showed up for dinner knowing they were going to be asked to give money. The target was two million dollars.
The room was filled with hardworking, super generous people. However, as I looked around to see who could actually pay, the target seemed not only unreasonable but impossible. Hey, I don’t like that word, but facing facts they had already given much of their money, even borrowed money, and many were volunteering their time. Some had done all three.
I could tell they all wanted to do more, but they were just tapped out.
About twenty percent of the total was raised by fifty people. There was another $500,000 raised by four families, still leaving us one million dollars short.
There was an awkward quiet to that room. People whispering. Everyone waiting for something to happen, but knowing that it wouldn’t. All the people in that room were committed to us hitting our target, and nobody wanted to admit defeat. Suddenly, the silence was broken. With one raise of a hand, this one man became the hero to every person in that room. He donated the whole million that stood between us and our goal.
The silence was shattered with applause. People were stunned, thrilled, and amazed. They were crying, hugging, and high fiving each other. The atmosphere in that room was electric. Everyone was united in the pride and purpose of knowing that we had achieved our vital goal of funding this worthy project.

I came home that night, inspired, and told my wife, "I'm going to write a book to teach people how to become millionaires," and that night I wrote this book.
